While I was at the Mawddach Residency in North Wales I noticed a flock of sheep stranded in the estuary during high tide. They were huddled in groups on grassy mounds, unable to cross the water around them due to deep channels that wind their way beneath the surface. The sheep stood calmly and silently, waiting for the tide to recede so they could rejoin the rest of the flock.
It was a strange scene to come across and I felt I wanted to depict it in my art as for me it represented those moments in life where you just have to wait out the difficult times, knowing that it won't last forever.
I engraved the maplewood during my residency, proofing and adding some contrast once I arrived home. I printed this edition on my antique Albion press.
